MPs Beat UPDF Generals in Gen Muhoozi Birthday Cup. Members of Parliament on Friday thumped UPDF Generals in a football game to mark the 48th birthday celebrations of the Commander of Land Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba at Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Hon Sanoni Bwire (Bulamogi County) bagged a halftime brace before Hon Martin Muzaale (Buzaaya County) scored the third goal in the second half.
UPDF Generals’ team, however, had something to cheer about when their Captain, Gen Wilson Mbadi, the Chief of Defence Forces was fouled inside the 18-yard box, prompting the referee to point to the spot-kick.
Gen Mbadi made no mistake and coolly put the ball beyond the reach of Hon Linos Ngompek (Kibanda North), the Parliament team’s captain.
According to the chief guest, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, this match was intended to cement and foster good working relations between the Army and the Legislative arm of Government.
“I have officially opened a friendly football match between Members of Parliament and UPDF Generals at Phillip Omondi stadium at Lugogo in Kampala. Games like these are good as they enhance the relationship between Parliament and the UPDF,” he said on Twitter.
This game was upon the request of the MPs who wrote to the CDF requesting for the match to celebrate Gen Muhoozi’s birthday.
At the end of the game, MPs were handed over a trophy labelled “Lt Gen Muhoozi 28th Birthday Cup” amidst merrymaking that went up to late in the evening.
