The National Resistance Movement political party is the ruling party in the Republic of Uganda whose Chairperson is the current sitting president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Members of Parliament who have so far shown interest to contest for the post of the 11th Parliamentary Speakership to replace fallen Jacob Oulanyah Lokori include the current deputy Speaker Annet Anita Among, Deputy attorney General Jackson Kafuzi Karugaba, Sarah Opendi, Jackson Atima and Felix Okot Ogong.
Others are Hon Theodore Ssekikubo the Lwemiyaga county legislator, Jacob Maxon Oboth Oboth the Budama West county legislator and State Minister for defense as well as Kintu Alex Brandon.
The seat fell vacant on Sunday morning March 20th 2022 after the passing on of Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah in Seattle, United States of America.
The NRM is expected to choose from those who will have hit today’s deadline to submit their interest and willingness to steer the 11th Parliament.
The party is expected to hold their caucus meeting on Thursday where they will gain consensus to front a single candidate who will face off with other contestants from other political parties on Friday where the Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo will preside over the election.
It is anticipated that the ruling political party (NRM) will retain the seat basing on its Parliamentary numerical strength over the other competing political parties.
