VICE PRESIDENT (designate)
In a Plenary sitting chaired by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Anita Among on Monday 14th June 2021, Ruhinda North MP Thomas Tayebwa seconded by Bakabulindi Charles, Workers Representative motion for a resolution of parliament to approve Jessica Alupo as Vice President of Uganda.
Alupo is a District Woman Representative for Katakwi and a retired soldier at the rank of Major of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). She first joined the cabinet as State Minister for Youth in 2009 and later served as Minister of Education and Sports between 2011 and 2015.
Alupo has been in Parliament since 2001, however, she lost her parliamentary seat in 2016 and made a comeback in 2021.
Hon. Tayebwa asked the MPs to approve Alupos appointment as the Vice President given her experience and personality which been tested and proven. He emphasized that Alupo’s track record of service delivery would go along away to help the President fulfil the NRM governments’ agenda.
PRIME MINISTER (designate)
Kinkizi East Chris Baryomunsi, moved a motion for a resolution of parliament to approve Hon. Nabbanja as the new Prime Minister of Uganda.The motion was seconded by Hon. Betty Amongi Akena
Baryomunsi called upon the MPs to approve the appointment of Nabbanja’s saying that her leadership skill had been proven and tested given her history of leadership and track recond in those leadership positions.
Amongi emphasized that Nabanjja had all it takes to be a Prime Minister. She said that Nabbanja’s experience and personality visa vie the roles of a Prime Minister is inseparable and that it makes a good replacement of the former.
Upon approval by the August House, Alupo promised to work with everyone irrespective of political affiliation, background or otherwise, for the growth and development of Uganda.
“The time for politicking has come to an end and I am therefore counting on each one of you and indeed all Ugandans to support me as I embark on this very important assignment,” she said.
Speaking after approval, Nabbanja committed herself to building on the foundation set by her predecessors. This will be done through strengthening the link between Executive and parliament,” said Nabbanja.
“I thank the people of Uganda for repeatedly trusting H.E Kaguta Museveni and the NRM with the Mandate to lead this Country. I believe that with the vision God has given him to embark on social-economic transformation the future of Ugandans will be secured” she added.
Nabbanja further called upon the public and the MPs to pray and support her as she embarks on a new journey. She promised to build on the foundation set by her predecessors by strengthening the link between the Executive and parliament.
