Benard Onen Odoi, a nephew of Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission (EC) chairman, has been accused of forging some of the documents required for him to join the race to represent Eastern Uganda in the NRM Youth Member of Parliament primary elections.
In a petition to the NRM EC Chairman, one Brian Mulonga says that Onen is using a forged National ID.
According to the petitioner, the date of birth (DOB) in the Voter Locator is different from what Onen has on the ID. The locater shows he was born in 1990 while the ID indicates 1991.
More so, when an individual was born to say, in 1991, the National Identification Number (NIN) is written starting with CM91… for males or CF91… for females as per NIRA guidelines.
For Onen, the NIN reads as CM860391023NJK, yet the DOB is 28/08/1991.
More importantly, “when his NIN… is applied in the voter locater, it’s invalid,” reads the petition, implying “Mr. Odoi tampered with his national ID”, further reads the petition, which was signed off on August 31.
Highly-placed sources have told this website that the NRM EC has dilly-dallied on the matter because of Benard Onen’s connection to the Commission chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi. Dr. Odoi is his paternal uncle, sources say.
Mulondo says the purpose of the petition is “to bring out justice for sanity to prevail.”
“We are not at all interested in anybody going to court but we would prefer your decision to end this man,” Mulonga writes to the chairman.
The ruling party will be electing Youth MP flag-bearers on October 10. Nominations were on August 24.
