Following the case that involved security forces tracking and killing six people in Kamwokya and in areas around Mawanda road in Kampala last week on 13th January 2025, whom they suspected to be part of a money robbery crue at Acacia Mall, a number of stakeholders and members in higher positions of political authority have come out to challenge the actions of the Uganda police.
This saw stake holders that included one Betty Nambooze the Honourable member of Parliament representing Mukono municipality asking for clarification about the incident from concerned directories including the ministry of Internal affairs.
“A video moving around on social media shows a police officer asking a suspect to lie down, but later showed the officer shooting at the suspect even upon complying to his orders” Honourable Nambooze stated as she addressed a session for members of Parliament on the committee for internal affairs.
Furthermore, the Minister for internal Affairs in Uganda, Honourable Kahimda Otafiire, also a member of the above mentioned committee, expressed discontent with the continuously rising cases of indiscipline among individuals in the Uganda Police.
Minister Otafiire also noted that it was his directive to the Inspector General of Police after he had taken the ministerial office that no Ugandan should be gunned down if he/she is either disarmed or handcuffed. He added that he has already asked for a report from the responsible persons in the police force.
Some sources also suggest that some of the people who were killed were mere market workers and that they had boarded a boda boda to head back to their places of residence only to be ambushed by the security personnel.
