Messi fails to attend Whitehouse Award ceremony.
On the 4th January 2025, the White House under the leadership of departing 46th President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, held a ceremony to honor and recognize leaders that have greatly contributed to making America a better place to live through their personal achievement or way of life.
The ceremony is one of a kind that brings rare honor to those listed to receive the presidential medal of freedom.
Among the 19 individual listed to receive the honor from the president of the United States of America included Argentine professional football player Lionel Messi who play for Inter Miami football club in America’s Major League Soccer.
Messi failed to attend the award ceremony but further observations suggest that the star’s absence was based on positive grounds .
“It’s a great honor to receive this recognition. I’m truly grateful for it. Unfortunately, I have a prior commitment and won’t be able to attend the ceremony at the Whitehouse on January 4th . But I deeply appreciate this gesture” Fabrizio Romano quoted from Messi’s letter to the Whitehouse after not attending the event to receive the “Presidential Medal of freedom”
“Messi also mentioned that he’d be open to meeting to receive the award at another time when he’s back in the US.” Stated Romano
