New Virus- is HMPV a world threat too?
Following the global outbreak of the outrageous respiratory disease that took shape in the last quarter of the year 2019 and handicapped the global social, economic and political affairs, holdings numerous superpower states like France, the United States of America and others captive for a period of over 3 years, China has since then gotten the world’s attention especially when it comes to the health sector.
This is majorly as a result of the crippling the disease caused across all continents which subsequently led to unexpected medical surge in almost all hospitals some of which were overwhelmed to an extent of ceasing their operation.
As a result, the World Health Organization (WHO) has continuously urged the Chinese health authorities to share COVID-19 data for the next five years as a measure to monitor the wiped pandemic.
However, China has continued to face numerous respiratory disease outbreak since the COVID-19 pandemic seemed to be wiped out and among these is the notable Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) that is rampantly spreading among Chinas population especially in the Northern province of the country.
“The outbreak easily spreads and is more infectious to infants below 14 years of age and the elderly people.” The Times reported.
Health authorities in China are closely monitoring the situation and have informed the population that while the outbreak is of known origin, it is uncommon for such respiratory infections to spread wildly during winter season and therefore they should continue to maintain good health through proper hygiene and preventive measures like wearing face masks, keeping a social distance in order to control it’s spread.
