Parliament Asks Security Minister to act on Gulu City insecurity. The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among has directed the Minister for Security and Minister of Internal Affairs to respond to the reported insecurity in Gulu City and neighboring districts.
The directive follows concerns raised by Layibi-Bardege Division Member of Parliament, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, who is worried about the safety of his constituents in Gulu City after unknown gunmen murdered residents.
Mapenduzi notes that there are increasing cases of attacks by robbers, especially at night and the most affected people are the cyclists and the public is in fear of a situation that has greatly affected economic activities, especially at night.
He said that whereas the area Police and the Resident City Commissioner are willing and ready to resolve the matter, the lack of facilitation including cars, fuel among others has remained to be a big challenge in their work.
The Government Chief Whip, Thomas Tayebwa has challenged the Regional Police and the Resident City Commissioner to address the security matter and also find solutions for the existing challenges.
