Gen Muhoozi arrives in Kigali to hold talks with Rwanda President Kagame. President Yoweri Museveni has finally made a decision to send the Commander of Land Forces Lt General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to Rwanda on a courtesy visit to President Paul Kagame.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Commander of Land Forces of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces and was previously the commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC) an elite unit of the UPDF that is in charge of the president’s security.
He is currently on a private visit to H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba was received by Uganda High Commission Staff led by Ms. Anne Katusiime the Charge d’Affaires and two officials from Rwanda Government; Col. Willy Rwagasana, Head Republican Guard and Col. Ronald Rwivanga, Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) Spokesperson.
An insider source from Urugwiro Village in Kigali, the official residence of the President of Rwanda, revealed that President Kagame is expecting to hold talks with Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba today afternoon.
Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba arrived at Kigali International Airport Kanombe today morning and will meet the Rwanda strongman later in the afternoon.
The details of the meeting between the Rwandan President and his special guest are not yet available, but the discussions are expected to be related to the long-standing tensions between Uganda and Rwanda.
The visit by Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba comes a few days after Ambassador Adonia Ayebare met with President Kagame and delivered a special message.
Political observers have said that the decision by the Ugandan President to send his own son to Rwanda is a move intended to show Uganda’s commitment to mending relations with Rwanda.
