Uganda’s COVID-19 cases skyrocket a day to Presidential address. The Ministry of Health has announced that the COVID-19 positivity rate has risen to 22% leaving scientists puzzled over what measures should be taken to stop the coronavirus disease spread.
According to a statement issued this morning by the Ministry of Health, the positivity rate climaxed on December 28th 2021, when 1,809 cases were confirmed out of 8,313 samples tested.
The statement indicates that 5 new death cases were reported on December 28th across the country which is a worrisome situation that needs tough enforcement.
The statement indicate that up to date the cumulative of COVID-19 cases in Uganda has risen to 139,079 since March 2020 when the first case was diagnosed while there are 93,379 recoveries and 69 people were by Wednesday still admitted in different health facilities across the country.
The Ministry of Health indicated that 11.3 million people have been vaccinated out the 22 million targeted priority people which is less than half of the targeted people.
The Ministry of Health made it categorically clear that unless people observe standard operating procedures (SOPs), the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to be a threat to the nation. The spike in COVID-19 cases comes at a time when the government is considering reopening the schools and the entire economy next month.
