On 6th January 2025, the Ministry of Works and transport in Uganda officially releases their third phase of digital registration number plates.
This follows the significant move made by the Ministry to utilize technology to help in improving National security and also improve on management of traffic in the country.
The digital registration number plates are fitted with radio frequency tracking technology that is to be used for tracking vehicles involved in committing crimes.The system is also meant help in collection and monitoring of government revenue.
The Ministry also stated through their X social media platform that those that require first time registration would will purchase the service at a cost of UGX 714,300 for the to acquire the digital registration number plates while those with already registered number plates would pay a fee of UGX 150,000 for cars and UGX 50,000 for motorcycles.
“While there is a grace period of 2 years for complete migration to the Digital Registration Number Plates, we encourage you to comply and migrate as soon as possible.You can go ahead and make a booking through the @URAuganda portal, make the booking and await a notification when your plates are ready for installation.Please note that the vehicle must be registered in your name and you must have a TIN.” The Ministry emphasized via their X platform.
