In their struggle to combat poverty across the country, the government of Uganda through the office of the President launched the Parish development Model program (PDM) on 26th February 2022.
The program was majorly designed to assist native in improving food security, improving service delivery, creating wealth while alleviating poverty, as well as to improve incomes and way of life of the people of Uganda.
However, the program , which was designed to operate on a per Parish scale has faced numerous challenges since it’s official launch.
Among these included poor data collection, monitoring and and supervision of the PDM program.
As a result, the government has improvised means of solving the challenges.Some of which are already in deployment.
For example, the PDM National coordinator Honourable Denis Ssozi Galabuzi handed over 215 tablets to the acting executive director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Frank Nyakaana Rusa , yesterday on 6th January 2025.
These tablets are preloaded with financial investigative software meant to help on enhancing the PDM performance through data collection and evaluation tools as well as enhanced monitoring and supervision of the program by key stakeholders that include parish chiefs, community development officers and district IT officers.
The tablets will be distributed as follows;-
Division Town Clerks: 5 tablets
IT Officers: 5 tablets per division
Statisticians: 5 tablets per division
Town Agents: 100 tablets (per ward)
SACCO Leaders: 100 tablets (per ward)
“The users will be trained to effectively utilise the equipment,” Hon. Galabuzi said.
Nyakaana emphasized the importance of these tablets in audit training, accountability, and ease of data collection
