Last season, the 34-year old scored 44 goals in 46 games as Real won the Champions League, another LaLiga championship, the Spanish Super Cup, and the European Super Cup.
Benzema won the Ballon d’Or at a ceremony in Paris, beating Sadio Mane for second place and Kevin De Bruyne for third. He is the first Frenchman to win the trophy since Zinedine Zidane did it in 1998.
Since Stanley Matthews won the inaugural Ballon d’Or award in 1956, the striker is also the award’s oldest recipient.
Benzema exclaimed, “I’m incredibly proud of it.” “I never gave up despite all the work I put in; it was a boyhood ambition that everyone has; I was inspired by Zidane and Ronaldo; and I’ve always believed that anything is possible.
“It wasn’t easy, it was a difficult time, and it was hard for my family as well, but to be here today, for the first time for me, I’m happy and satisfied with my work and I keep going. There was a challenging period when I wasn’t in the French team, but I never stopped working hard or gave up. I always kept my head, concentrated on playing football.
“Whether it be the national team or Real Madrid, I want to thank my teammates. Thanks to him as well, my coach. also the Real Madrid president.
