Church of Uganda to Spend UGX600M on Martyrs day celebrations. The organizing committee of the Anglican Uganda Martyrs Day Celebrations for the year 2022 has revealed that a total of UGX 600M will be required to run the activities of the day.
The celebration is slated for 3rd June 2022 at Namugongo Anglican Shrine and this will be led by the Ankole Arch-Diocese comprising of; West Ankole ArchDiocese, South Ankole Diocese, North Ankole Diocese, and North West Ankole Diocese under the theme “Beyond Affliction (Lamentations 3:21-24).
The Chief Guest is expected to be the President of the Republic of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the Retired Bishop Samson Maluda from the East African Revival will be the chief preacher.
In a statement read by Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa of Ankole diocese at a press briefing held at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero, the joint 5 Bishops committee revealed that they will hold a thanksgiving service on Friday 22th April 2022 to support the event and all Christians are invited to attend.
Speaking at the Function, Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni of West Ankole diocese said that during the 3rd June Celebrations and in respect of the Martyrs (23 Anglicans), SOPs will be observed because Uganda has not been declared covid-19 free.
Hon Canon Mary Karooro Okurut, the publicity chairman called on the youths to actively participate in this year’s celebrations and offer their lives to God.
Members of Parliament from the Ankole Region who attended the briefing included Hon Micheal Mawanda Of Igara East (Bushenyi), Hon Nathan Itungo (Kashari South in Mbarara), Hon Steven Kangwagye (Bukanga-Isingiro), and Hon Molly Asiimwe (Woman MP Rwampara) who all vowed to support the celebrations.
All Bishops from Ankole Region including Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni, Sheldon Mwesigwa, Steven Namanya, Nathan Ahimbisibwe, and the chairperson Organizing Committee Hon Professor Ephraim Kamuntu blessed the function with only Bishop Amos Magezi who missed with an apology.
