BREAKING! Fresh fighting in D.R.C, thousands of Refugees stranded at Bunagana border. Thousands of Congolese fleeing fresh violence in the North Kivu province of Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have today entered Uganda through the Bunagana border in Kisoro district.
The refugees who started their entry into the country as early as 1 am last night claim they were fleeing the heavy gunfire and the group responsible for the violence has not yet come out to take responsibility.
At the Bunagana border, security personnel has been overwhelmed with the large numbers who cannot be evacuated to the Nyakabande transit camp due to Covid-19 protocol.
Sources indicate that the security team led by Kisoro Deputy Resident District commissioner Dan Ndikumwami held a close-door emergency meeting to find a solution to the problem.
The Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is prone to Militia insurgents which often force civilians to flee into Uganda seeking refuge.
At this moment, there is gunfire at Bunagana hill and Busanza in Eastern DRC. The business has since come to a standstill following the refugee influx at Bunagana Town Council on Uganda side.
