US sanctions Uganda’s Gen Kandiho the CMI boss; UPDF angered. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) a National Security Force of the Republic of Uganda is angered by US financial sanctions on Gen. Abel Kandiho.
In a statement, the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) Spokesperson Maj Gen Flavia Byekwaso has said that the Uganda government is disappointed by the US action of slapping financial sanctions on Maj Gen Abel Kandiiho.
According to a press release dated December 7th 2021, Brig Byekwaso said that they had learnt about the unilateral financial sanctions against Maj Gen Kandiiho by the United States of America government.
Brig Byekwaso said that as a country and UPDF in particular, they were disappointed that such a decision could be taken by a country they consider friendly, a partner and a great ally, without due process and in total disregard of the principle of fair hearing.
She also said that the US failed to make necessary consultation over the matter to find an amicable solution.
“We will be seeking clarification from the United States of America government to be able to determine the way forward” the press statement reads in part.
Maj Gen Abel Kandiiho was last month appointed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as Head of Military Police and was thereafter sanctioned on financial matters by the US government.
