Minister Aceng warns District Leaders against misuse of COVID-19 Response Vehicles. The Minister of Health Hon Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has written to District Chairmen, City and Municipal Mayors, Chief Administrative Officers and Town Clerks warning them about the alleged misuse of COVID-19 response and surveillance vehicles.
According to a letter dated 20th December 2021, addressed to the mentioned district leaders and signed by Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero the 282 double cabin pickups which were recently handed over to the district are purposely meant to be used by the respective District Health Department to support surveillance and COVID-19 vaccination activities.
Dr Aceng made it categorically clear that when the vehicles were handed over to the district leaders at Kololo Independence Ground, President Yoweri Museveni stressed that the vehicles must be used for the purpose they were procured for.
Dr Aceng however noted that it has come to her attention that some District leaders have diverted the vehicles by some political and top district technical people rather than being used by the health workers for the intended purpose.
“Some of you have gone ahead to rub off the writing from the vehicles which is a malpractice and misconduct of the highest order and its unacceptable” Minister Aceng said.
She therefore directed that the vehicles are returned to the health workers with immediate effect to be used for surveillance and COVID-19 vaccination activities.
The Ministry of Health Monitoring Team and District Health Officers have been asked to follow up the directive and inform the Minister for further action before December 27th 2021.
The letter was copied to the Prime Minister, Ministers of State for Health, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Resident District Commissioners and Medical Supretendants among many others.
