Blogger Lumbuye is out of prison. Kyadondo East legislator and Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Muwadda Nkunyingi has disclosed that Turkey-based Ugandan blogger Fred Kajjubi Lumbuye has been released today from detention where he has been for the last two months.
Nkunyingi, who is part of the National Unity Platform legal team revealed that the legal Team in Turkey confirmed to them that the Turkish authorities notified them about the decision to release Lumbuye.
“Lumbuye Fred has been “conditionally” released today as all key legal applications were concluded. I have talked to him, and he is at his home in Istanbul, Turkey. He is in good spirits and happy to be back home,” said Mr Nkunyingi, who was part of the legal team that had challenged his detention.
Certainly, he will narrate the details himself at the appropriate time. Our legal team remains committed to promptly following up on all due processes,” said Nkunyingi.
In August, it came to light that Lumbuye had been arrested at his residence in Istanbul, Turkey for illegal stay, inciting violence among Ugandans among other offences, rumours circulated on different media and social media platforms. State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Henry Oryem Okello, came out and confirmed the arrest before stating that Lumbuye was set to be deported, however, this did not come to pass.
Fred Lumbuye had been held at the Kocaeli Foreigners Detention Centre in Turkey since early August 2021.
