KAMPALA – With effect from tomorrow Uganda Police (traffic officers) will abandon the snow-white uniform initially introduced ahead of CHOGM in November 2007 and opt for a khaki; the leadership has decided.
Traffic police is among the category of specialized unit among Uganda Police Force just like Counter-Terrorism-CT, Very Important Persons Protection Unit –VIPPU, Field Force Unit –FFU, Marine and Canine which have different uniforms.
The new traffic uniform was unveiled by the Police political commissar Asan Kasingye at Police Headquarter in Naguru this afternoon.
Kasingye said over 48000 traffic officers around the country have received two pairs of attire which were distributed by the logistics and welfare directorates of the police spearheading the project.
Uganda Police Force top management has considered ‘khaki’ which has been for general duty police officers on reasons that the uniform was not easy to maintain in its original color on days covered by a downpour, mud and the dry dusty days and also much personnel is allegedly shabby and unable to keep the uniforms neat.
However, Even though traffic officers will be wearing khaki uniforms, the Uniforms have specific features purposely to differentiate them from general duty police personnel.
