President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with Hon. Evelyn Anite (Minister for Investment & Privatisation)
HE. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioned operations of seven (7) small to medium manufacturing and assembly plants including Orion Electronics Limited producing electronic gadgets and accessories. Others produce protective gears (PPEs) like gumboots, hand sanitisers and masks et al in Namanve Industrial Park.
These set-ups are a result of deliberate measures taken to make Uganda a desirable investment destination & stress job creation as enshrined in the 2016 NRM Manifesto and Government of Uganda priorities.
Many Ugandans especially the youth have been employed in these factories to man points of production and assembly lines. They are getting skills, earning some money to improve their incomes and their purchasing power.
Besides the local and regional markets, Uganda has been able to join different platforms by assenting to agreements internationally such as AGOA, the EU market, and concessions on over 400 products to the Chinese market et al. All of these are on a non-tariff, non-quota basis aimed at promoting locally produced goods and lowering import substitution.
